Against the Flow
Board Game Design
Chutes and ladders takes an interesting turn at the river's bend - it's spring in Alaska, and you're a sockeye salmon trying to swim upstream against the flow of the waters to the spawning grounds. Use the boulders in the river to jump upstream, and be careful of sudden rapids washing you downstream!
The Board

I took a lot of inspiration from the natural setting of the Alaskan wild, and created a game board that felt like a topographical map of the rapids the fish need to navigate, while also keeping the game at a decent challenge level and placing the chutes and ladders respectively in locations across the board where they can give the player and fun and fair advantage.
